My most treasured gift of Christmas 2018 came from my sister in the form of the smile-inducing Edible Ensembles, a whimsical collection of illustrations marrying food and fashion by the talented SF-based artist and illustrator Gretchen Röehrs. I'm admittedly late to the party in showcasing my admiration for this superstar creative as she is beloved by global media, her Instagram followers and everyone in between. Röehrs hails from Marshall, Missouri and made her way to San Francisco back in 2012 as a recent graduate of Stephens College, a women’s design school in the Midwest. Taking a job as an app-designer, Röehrs found artistic inspiration in the somewhat unlikely subject of fruits and vegetables and began doodling in an effort to unleash her creative spirit. As many modern-day success stories go, she started to post her line drawings along with perfectly placed foods to represent fashionable figures on Instagram and the rest is history. Her work gained traction with close friends along with the likes of more well-known fans like Marc Jacobs beauty, Chantal Guillon macarons, Bon Appetit, to name only a few, who have tapped Röehrs for campaign and editorial work.
When Röehrs isn't making us spontaneously giggle she can be found working as Art Director at cult-favorite shoe brand Rothy's.
