Ilustra Coruja, an independent Brazilian bookstore and publisher, stands as a beacon for children and young adult literature. With a mission to champion the power of storytelling, Ilustra Coruja weaves enchantment through every book it offers. At the heart of its visual narrative is a meticulously crafted brand identity, brought to life by designer Walisson Alves. The brand’s symbol, inspired by the mythical "Athenian owl," is a testament to wisdom and knowledge, resonating deeply with the brand's core values.
The genesis of Ilustra Coruja’s branding began with a freehand symbol and a concise briefing. The emblem, structured on a 13x12 modular grid, evokes the elegance and intelligence of the owl, while the logotype utilizes the Made Dillan typeface. Its gentle serifs add a dash of artistic magic and friendliness, amplifying the brand’s approachable character.
The color palette of violet and lilac hues reinforces the magical ideal, embodying creativity and tranquility. These colors are known for their ability to stir the imagination and induce calmness. The choice of a beige tone pays homage to the tactile essence of books, enhancing contrast and readability.
Alves' project, part of his Graphic Design degree's final work, acknowledges the guiding influence of his professor and friend, Rogério Veloso, and the supervisory prowess of Thaís Bahia.
